Financial support

Student scholarships

QSciTech supports research by providing funding to facilitate hiring of graduate students by professors. This can reduce substantially the financial responsibility of individual researchers over the duration of a student's graduate studies. A Ph.D. student gets funding for a total up to 40k$ (25k$ from QSciTech + up to 15k$ from Mitacs/industry for the internship). For an M.Sc. student, the total is up to 27k$ (12k$ from QSciTech + up to 15k$ for the internship). It is expected that if the student incurs additionnal fees for their participation to QSciTech mandated activities, the QSciTech funding received will be put towards those fees, so that there is no financial penalty for the student.

Depending on the study program, for non-scholarship holders the installments transfered to the student's university are as follow:

Master

1st installment
At QsciTech Registration
2nd installment
Completion Phase 1 OU Phase 2
3rd installment
Completion Phases 1 AND 2

Internship

(Phase 3)

4 000 $ 4 000 $ 4 000 $ Up to 15 000 $

Doctorate

1st installment
At QSciTech Registration
2nd installment
Completion Phase 1 OU Phase 2
3rd installment
Completion Phases 1 AND 2

Internship

(Phase 3)

5 000 $ 5 000 $ 15 000 $ Up to 15 000 $

For students holding scholarships (NSERC, FRQNT, etc.), QSciTech provides scholarship supplements of 4k$ at end of each of Phases 1 and 2 upon success (total 8k$), and internship salaray can typically be cumulated with scholarship*.

*Some particular situations may need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Funding opportunities for post-doctoral fellows
and undergraduate students

QSciTech can welcome one (1) postdoctoral fellow per year to benefit from the QSciTech training. In this case the total funding provided is 3k$, in a single installment. Only phases 1 and 2 anre required for postdoctoral fellows, the industrial internship is not mandatory. For more information on how to apply as a postdoctoral fellow, see the application page.

QSciTech can also provide funding for research internships in university laboratory/research group to attract undergraduate students to the field of quantum science, materials, and technologies. The funding provided by QSciTech is 4.5 k$ per internship. The balance of the student’s salary (subject to your departmental regulations if applicable) is to be provided by the supervisor. This funding is targeted at undergraduate internships, involving a research project related to quantum technology, science, materials, or engineering, in a QSciTech participating university (see Admissibility). This funding cannot be combined with NSERC USRA (Undergraduate Student Research Awards). For more information on how to apply to the QSciTech Support Program for Undergraduate Research Internships, see the application page.

Additionnal support available for QsciTech participants

Travel expenses incurred by students to attend QSciTech courses and other activities are reimbursed (pre-approval and receipts may be required_.

QSciTech supports on a competitive basis three (3) 4-months international exchanges per year for PhD trainees to allow them to acquire a broader set of scientific/technical skills, with a funding of 4k$ per exchange. QSciTech can also support students for scientific stays in international laboratories, through MITACS Globalink Reseach Award program or other sources (e.g. Canada-France exchange programs, Japan scholarships, etc).
